It Happens in Stages

It Happens in Stages

“First the blade, then the head, after that the full grain.”  Mk 4:28 NKJV

If you’re waiting for a promise God has given you to be fulfilled, observe the words of Jesus: “The kingdom of God is as if a man should scatter seed on the ground, and should sleep by night and rise by day, and the seed should sprout and grow, he himself does not know how. For the earth yields crops by itself: first the blade, then the head, after that the full grain in the head. But when the grain ripens, immediately he puts in the sickle, because the harvest has come” (Mk 4:26-29 NKJV). Before you receive what God has promised, you often go through certain stages. Let’s look at them:

First there’s the “I don’t know” stage. Your seed is in the ground; when it will produce a harvest is entirely up to God. But His Word assures you it will. Next comes “the blade” stage. It’s just a tiny blade blowing in the breeze, but it’s enough to encourage you and let you know that the answer is on the way. Next comes “the head” stage. Now it’s starting to look like what you prayed for. Hopefully you’ve been watering it with prayer, fertilizing it with God’s Word, and protecting it from any negative force that would try to uproot it. Finally you enter “the full grain” stage. This is when God says: “Put in the sickle, because your harvest has come.” At this point it’s crucial to recognize your harvest and begin to reap it. Whatever stage you’re at today, stand on God’s promise and keep trusting Him. He will not disappoint you.

From this devotional I learned 2 things: 1) You can believe and trust God's promises; don't depend on man's; 2) Be patient, keep praying and believing the promise will come in God's time, not mine.

Another note: I also read "Our Daily Bread" and it uses the same Scripture for their devotional today! Their view on this passage is to keep witnessing and praying for and to unbelievers. Don't give up on them!

God is telling me, "DON'T GIVE UP!" I've been putting my beliefs and hopes in man's promise in a certain area and I my hope and promise should be in the Almighty.

Thanks for sharing the Encouraging Word from God today. Maybe the blessings of God be upon you all!

Cassandra, Your paragraph has been wonderful to read. My friend sent me the email with a few icons to click on. This was the first one. Wanted to tell you that what you wrote has been encouraging to me for my daughter who is in "Teen Challenge" girls home several hrs. from home. She is learning to trust God and without going into the whole story this is what she needs to hear/read. It was helpful to me and I know it'll be helpful to her. She is a good kid and got a little sidetracked at 16. We are anticipating great things that God is doing and she is too! Praise the Lord! Also, a friend who is going through breast cancer for the second time is asking her only prayer is to "trust God". I will share this with her too. Your thoughts have traveled well!!! Hope you feel encouraged that you encouraged ME! Thanks! Jodi
